Three (3) options on how to convert colored photos to black and white.
Second option: REMOVE COLOR
Step 1:
- You can also use Desaturate option, (Image>Adjustments>Desaturate). This feature has the advantage of keeping the photo in RGB mode after the conversion allowing hand coloring of the photo.
Step 2:
- The one-step Desaturate feature produces the same results as manually desaturating the photo using the controls in the Hue/Saturation feature, (Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Hue/Saturation).
Step 3:
- With the Hue/Saturation dialog open, drag the Saturation slider all the way to the left (a setting of -100) to produce a grayscale result.
